Greek tradition and the heritage of folk festivals have influenced designer Stavri Grigori’s risqué, inventive looks. Combining earthy goat-hair with the sheen and delicacy of lilac and pistachio Moiré silk, Stavri creates distinctive contemporary fashion. Juxtaposing Greek rural references, including bells and goatskin, with details derived from modern lingerie and Victorian corsetry makes for a striking and memorable collection.

Stavri: So to be more precise, my collection was a mix between imagery from the greek folk festival 'Mpampougera' that happens every carnival season in a village in the north of Greece and historical lingerie and corsetry. During the festival, the village boys dress up in goat, sheep and other farm animal found carcasses and 'wreak havoc' around the village. I attended the festival last year and had the opportunity to talk to the people involved and see their process; them getting ready etc. The other half of the collection was an ode to lingerie and corsetry, mostly using techniques and silhouettes and reappropriating for other body parts (eg bustier as a skirt) and mixing silks and mesh with the more earthy and rigid leathers and skins.’
